January 7, 2024, Mississauga, Ontario – The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) announced today that Rodion Tatarenko of the Markham Royals has been named the East Conference Player-of-the-Month for December after he accumulated a league-leading 15 points (six goals/nine assists) during six games.
Tatarenko scored the game-winner as part of a five-point (three goals/two assists) outburst during the Royals’ 7-4 win in Aurora Dec. 14.
The 20-year-old from Stavropol, Russia has 28 points (10 goals/18 assists) in 14 games this season. Tatarenko had multiple points in eight of those games. He played his first game with the Royals this season on Nov. 1.
Tatarenko and the Royals have a pair of games in Toronto this weekend, at St. Michael’s College School Friday and North York Sunday.
David Fournier of the Trenton Golden Hawks was voted runner-up to Tatarenko as the East Conference Player-of-the-Month. The product of Blainville, Quebec had eight goals and six assists in seven games for nationally-ranked Trenton during December. Fournier is second to Leamington’s Colton Smith in OJHL points (61) and goals (30) this season. He had 58 points in 44 games in Trenton last season.
Tatarenko and Founier were selected to represent the OJHL in a series with Ontario University Athletics\U SPORTS teams last weekend.
