Follow along with the Royals’ season every Friday (Royals Weekly) on MarkhamRoyals.com as we look back at the games that were and look ahead to the upcoming action!
The Markham Royals return to the ice for a trio of games over the next four days, looking to snap a five-game losing streak dating back to November 22nd.
Last week was not kind to the blue and white, as a hard-fought effort on Friday led to a nail-biting 7-6 loss against Stouffville, followed by a 4-1 defeat to the Pickering Panthers on Sunday.
The slate is wiped fresh, however, for three opportunities to get back in the win column. The action starts on Friday night as the Royals take on the Toronto Jr. Canadiens for the third of four games this year. In their previous matchup, a special game in Newmarket hosted by JRC, the Royals went goalless in a 3-0 defeat. Toronto has wins in both games in the season series thus far.
On Saturday, Markham will make a short trip to Aurora to take on the Tigers. Aurora Community Centre was hope to the Royals’ first road win of the year, and the season series thus far has been in Markham’s favour, with the most recent game featuring a 3-1 victory.
Both games this weekend will begin at 7:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, the team will take the bus to Cobourg to take on the Cougars for the second time this season. The last time the two teams met was in Markham’s season opener, which Cobourg won 6-2. Puck drop for that game is at 7:00 p.m.
One player for Royals fans to watch this weekend is Rodion Tatarenko. The 2004-born forward has added a layer of offensive skill to the Markham Roster since joining the team in November. In ten games, Tatarenko has produced six goals and thirteen assists, going just one game without picking up at least one point. We’ll see if he can continue that explosive pace through to the holiday break!
