The Markham Royals announced a trade on Thursday, sending defenceman Andrew Lanni to the Newmarket Hurricanes in exchange for a player development fee.

Lanni, 20, spent his last three seasons playing with the Royals, accruing 13 goals and 67 assists across 168 games played. In 2024/25, Lanni had a breakout year, producing 48 points in 49 games, giving him the second-most productive season in franchise history for a blueliner. As a result of his performance, Lanni represented the Royals and Ontario Junior Hockey League at the “Battle of Ontario” showcase against the CCHL last November. Following a series of trade deadline moves, Lanni closed out the season as the Royals’ captain.

Lanni’s 168 games played in Blue and White are the most in franchise history. We wish him all the best with his new team!
