The Markham Royals announced today that Steve McSwain has been hired as the team’s new Head Coach.
McSwain, 31, becomes the second head coach in Royals history. He joins Markham after two years as an assistant coach with the Toronto Patriots, along with five years of minor hockey experience as a head coach in the Vaughan Kings organization. McSwain also previously served as an assistant coach with China’s Kunlun Red Star Junior program.
The Mississauga native brings a proven track record of developing younger players towards success in higher levels, and brings strong leadership while maintaining the respect and support of his players.
“I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to lead such a respected organization,” said McSwain. “I’m excited to get to work, connect with the players, and build a winner in Markham!”
“Steve and I have worked together for many years, and he carries all the values of what it takes to be a Royal,” said Mike Galati, who served as the Royals’ head coach for the team’s prior ten seasons and will remain with Markham as the team’s General Manager. “I know he will continue to work hard, develop and maintain the great culture we’ve created here in Markham. We are very confident in Steve and very excited for him to get started in Markham!”
