The Markham Royals have an opportunity to build on an explosive Sunday affair this weekend, as they host the Caledon Admirals on Friday evening and visit the Toronto Jr. Canadiens on Sunday.
Looking back to last Sunday, the boys in blue had an afternoon to remember against Pickering, clinching a season series victory against the Panthers in a decisive 8-2 victory. Leading the way were four of the Royals’ trade deadline acquisitions.
Philip Gouvedaris opened up the scoring for Markham in the first period, and scored two third-period tallies to notch his first Ontario Junior Hockey League hat trick. Marko Saroglou and Zach Mascard also scored a pair of goals each in a six-goal third period, while netminder Noah Caballero stopped 31 of 33 shots in the win.
Friday’s game against Caledon will be the first and only matchup between the two teams this year. The Admirals sit in second-last in the OJHL standings, posting a 9-34-2 record to date. Sunday’s game will be the Royals’ fourth and final game against the Junior Canadiens, who have gotten the best of them in all three previous matchups.
Puck drop for Friday’s game is at 7:30 p.m. at Markham Centennial Arena, while Sunday’s game will be played at 7:15 p.m. at Scotiabank Pond in Toronto.
