Royals Win Back To Back

For the first time this season, the Royals have won consecutive games, defeating two significant opponents in Milton and Wellington on Sunday and Wednesday.

In the first game, the Menace poured on the offence, putting up 45 shots on goal and striking first with a breakaway following a Markham Powerplay. But Royals netminder Sebastian Monaco stood tall with his best performance yet this season, keeping that breakaway as the lone goal against throughout the evening. Julian Mandarino scored his fifth of the season to tie the game late in the second period, and in overtime, a streaking Ashton Miwa potted his sixth to get Markham back in the win column.

On Wednesday, the Royals built on this against the Dukes, taking the bus into Prince Edward County and showing strength from the opening puck drop. Nic Ferrante put Markham up midway through the first period, followed by Mandarino’s third goal in four games just 42 seconds later. After a scoreless second, Owen Ibbotson extended the lead to three early in the third period. Wellington pushed and brought the game within two, but Ferrante and Mandarino added empty netters to send the game out of reach.

Upcoming Games

With October now behind us, the team hopes to make November its best month yet. A busy schedule continues as the Royals play three times over the next five days, starting tonight when they host the St. Michael’s Buzzers. They’ll be looking for revenge after a 4-1 defeat at SMCS on October 4th. On Sunday, they’ll host the Haliburton County Huskies, who won the opening matchup of the season by a 6-3 margin on September 28th.

Lastly, on Tuesday, the Royals take on a whole new opponent in the King Rebellion for the first time since the team moved from Brantford this summer.

Tonight’s puck drop is at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday and Tuesday’s games begin at 1:30 p.m.
