Follow along with the Royals’ season every Friday (Royals Weekly) on MarkhamRoyals.com as we look back at the games that were and look ahead to the upcoming action!

Royals Earn Points In Two Of Three

The Royals kicked off the first week of November with three games in the span of five days, including two of the Eastern Conference’s top teams in the St. Michael’s Buzzers and Haliburton County Huskies, and the highly skilled King City Rebellion in the West. From this, the team was able to pull out two points across the three games – a tie against the Buzzers, and an overtime loss against the Rebellion.

Friday’s game against St. Mike’s was a banner night for rookie forward Joshua Giordano, who scored his first career hat trick. The 17-year-old opened the scoring six minutes into the first period, and after the Buzzers scored for unanswered, his second and third goals began the comeback push. With fifteen seconds to go, veteran forward Rodion Tatarenko tied the game with a bank shot from behind the net, his first in the OJHL. Overtime solved nothing and both teams skated off with a point.

The Royals were unable to get revenge for their early season loss to the Huskies, trading goals throughout the first and second periods before Haliburton put the game a little too far out of reach. Tuesdays’ game in Nobleton, the Royals’ first against the Rebellion, saw the teams trade goals all the way through to the end of regulation, before King City took their first lead of the game in overtime.

Upcoming Games

The Royals visit the Muskies in Lindsay on Friday night, hoping to respond to a 4-3 loss against them at home on September 27th. From there, they’ll host the Trenton Golden Hawks for the first time this year. Last season, the Golden Hawks won three of our games in the season series. Puck drop on Friday is at 7:00 p.m., while Sunday’s game is at 1:30 p.m.
