Happy New Year! We hope you all had a fantastic holidays and are as eager to take on 2025 as we are. The Royals return to the ice on Friday night for the first of a pair of home games to open the calendar year, hoping to build up a win streak started before the break.
Back on December 22nd, Markham pulled off a dramatic home win against the Cobourg Cougars. Two goals from Julian Mandarino and an insurance tally from veteran Owen Fergusson put the Royals up by three midway through the third period, but the Cougars pushed back, scoring two in under a minute and nearly tying the game in the dying moments. The coaching staff challenged Coborug’s equalizer, however, and the goal was overturned, ultimately leading to a Markham victory.
Tonight, the team hopes to build on that win against the North York Rangers. It’s Markham’s second time playing their GTA rivals this season after falling 5-3 in the team’s home opener back on September 13th. Puck drop will take place at 7:30 p.m.
On Sunday afternoon, the Royals host the Aurora Tigers, who they’ve had no shortage of success against this season, winning all three games of the season series thus far by 4-2, 3-1, and 7-4 final scores. This gives Markham the opportunity for a season series sweep, which would be their first on the year. Puck drop for Sunday’s game is at 1:30 p.m.
