Follow along with the Royals’ season every Monday (Royals Weekly) and Friday (Royals Weekend) on MarkhamRoyals.com as we look back at the games that were and look ahead to the upcoming action!
While the start of the season hasn’t gone as hoped for the Markham Royals, the team looks to shake off the rust and get into the win column on Friday night as they take on the Pickering Panthers.
Markham enters this game having lost its first three games to Cobourg, North York, and Wellington, respectively. Pickering enters with a 1-3-0 record through four games. The Panthers opened their season with three losses against the Toronto Jr. Canadians, Wellington Dukes, and Trenton Golden Hawks, before winning on Sunday against the Aurora Tigers.
The Royals and Panthers played each other four times last season, including a stretch in October that saw them as our opponents in three of five games. Markham had the edge in the season series, having won the first two games (7-4 and 8-4), tied the second (5-5), and losing the third (3-0) in late November.
The Royals will look for continued production from the likes of their veterans, such as captain William Godfrey (3G 1A through three games) and alternate captain Owen Fergusson (0G 3A through three games), while hoping to add a bit more support from their depth options.
Friday’s game at Markham Centennial Community Centre will be the lone contest for the Royals, who will then prepare for a pair of games at the OJHL Governor’s Showcase next Tuesday and Wednesday.
