Royals Go Winless At Showcase

The 2024 OJHL Governor’s Showcase has come and gone, with the Royals playing games against the Niagara Falls Canucks and Oakville Blades.

Unfortunately, the team was unsuccessful in adding to their point total to start the week, falling 5-1 to the Canucks and 3-0 to the Blades.

Charlie Nolette scored the team’s lone goal against Niagara, giving him three through six games, leading all Royals forwards. Wednesday saw Ryan Harris make his first start for Markham, in which the rookie made an impressive 40 saves on 42 shots on goal.

Several Royals players were greeted by collegiate scouts at the showcase, bringing them a step closer towards future commitments.

Bounce-back Opportunity This Weekend

The Royals hope to shake off the pair of losses and get a quick opportunity to do so, playing games on Friday against the Lindsay Muskies and Saturday against the Haliburton County Huskies.

The Royals went 3-1-0 against the Muskies in 2023/24, and split their season series against the Huskies. Both teams have had mixed starts to their years, providing the Royals an opportunity to pounce with the right focus and attitude.

Puck drop on Friday is at 7:30 p.m. in Markham, while Saturday’s game is at 4:00 p.m. in Haliburton.
