MARKHAM, ON — Eight games. Eight wins.
The Markham Royals have continued their perfect start to the season, improving to 8-0-0 following an overtime goal scored by Andrew Pacheco over the Cobourg Cougars.
The latest win adds to an impressive opening stretch for the Royals, who have found different ways to win throughout their undefeated run. From high-end offensive production to a strong defensive group and excellent goaltending, Markham’s early success has been built on contributions throughout the lineup.
OFFENCE LEADING THE WAY
At the forefront of the Royals’ offensive attack have been Chance Adams and Kayden Brand, who have established themselves among the league’s top scorers early in the season.
Both have provided consistent production and have played major roles in an offence that has proven dangerous throughout the opening eight games.
While Adams and Brand have led the way, Markham’s offensive success has extended throughout the lineup. The Royals have continued to receive contributions from different players in key situations, providing the club with the scoring depth needed to compete every night.
That depth has been especially important during close games, with the Royals showing an ability to find offence when it matters most — including their latest overtime victory over Cobourg.
HURT LEADS A STRONG ROYALS BLUE LINE
Markham’s perfect start has been just as impressive at the other end of the ice.
Hughston Hurt has helped lead a strong Royals defensive group, bringing experience, composure and a steady presence to the blue line.
Hurt and the Royals’ defence have been instrumental in Markham’s ability to control games, limit opposing opportunities and move the puck effectively out of the defensive zone.
The defensive group has also complemented Markham’s offensive style, helping turn stops in the defensive zone into quick transitions and opportunities going the other way.
CERANIC AND CHLEBOWSKI STRONG BETWEEN THE PIPES
Behind the Royals’ defence, goaltenders Jacob Ceranic and Peter Chlebowski have provided Markham with excellent play between the pipes.
Both goaltenders have delivered strong performances when called upon, providing the Royals with consistency and giving the group confidence in front of them.
Whether protecting a lead or making a key save in a tight game, Ceranic and Chlebowski have played an important role in helping Markham remain unbeaten through its first eight contests.
Strong goaltending combined with a dependable defensive group has provided a solid foundation behind a Royals offence that has shown it can produce throughout the lineup.
EIGHT GAMES, EIGHT WINS
The Royals’ 8-0-0 start represents an exciting beginning for a team that entered the season with a number of new additions and a renewed sense of direction.
The early results have shown a team capable of winning in different ways. Markham has displayed offensive firepower, defensive structure and strong goaltending, while also showing the ability to respond when games are tight.
The overtime victory against Cobourg was another example of that resilience.
With eight consecutive wins to begin the season, the Royals have built significant early-season momentum. But with plenty of hockey still ahead, the focus remains on continuing to improve and building on the standard established through the opening weeks.
For now, one thing remains unchanged:
The Markham Royals are undefeated.
