The Markham Royals announced their leadership group for the 2024/25 season on Thursday night, including naming William Godfrey as the team’s new captain.
Godfrey, 20, enters his third season with the organization, previously playing 84 games with the club in 2022/23 and 2023/24. The 2004-born defenceman scored in the team’s season opener on Monday against Cobourg.
Joining him as Alternate Captains are 2004-born forwards Ashton Miwa and Owen Fergusson. Miwa is a second-year Royal, joining the team via a trade with the Toronto Patriots ahead of the 2023/24 season, and produced 18 points in 53 games last season. Fergusson joined the team in a trade with the Espanola Paper Kings earlier this summer, bringing with him three years of experience in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.
All three players will wear their letters for the first time on Friday night, as the Royals take on the North York Rangers in their 2024/25 Home Opener.
