Three former members of the Markham Royals have joined our long list of post-secondary commitments in recent weeks!

Last week, 2004-born forward Owen Fergusson announced his commitment to the Kingston-baed Royal Military College of Canada Paladins, who play in USPORTS. Fergusson joined the Royals at the start of the 2024/25 season in a trade from the NOJHL’s Espanola Paper Kings, quickly becoming an Alternate Captain and beloved veteran presence. In 38 games with Markham, Fergusson produced 13 goals and 26 assists. Owen was moved at the trade deadline to the Leamington Flyers, meaning that the Royals will have the opportunity to congratulate him and face him for the first time this Thursday.

As well, 2004-born forward Zachary Vickerman has committed to Southern New Hampshire University, in the NCAA’s Division III. Vickerman joined the Royals via a trade with the Toronto Patriots at the start of this season, playing 16 games with Markham before suffering a long-term leg injury. Vickerman remained an important voice in the Royals room throughout his recovery, and recently returned to play with the Georgina Ice of the PJCHL.

Looking back to last year’s team, Royals Alumni and 2004-born forward Matthew Green has also made a post-secondary commitment, pledging his hockey future to Concordia University Wisconsin in the NCAA’s Division III. The power forward played for the Royals in 2023/24, notching 12 goals and 23 assists in 45 games played. Matthew has spent this season with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the NAHL.

Congratulations to all three players!
