MARKHAM, ON – The Markham Royals Hockey Club has announced that Jerrold Annett has acquired a majority ownership stake in the organization, marking the start of an exciting new chapter ahead of the 2026–27 OJHL season.
Annett brings more than 30 years of professional experience—including time in senior executive roles—but just as importantly, a lifelong passion for the game of hockey and a deep appreciation for what junior hockey means to players and families.
“Hockey has always been a big part of my life,” said Annett. “I’ve followed and supported the junior game for many years, so stepping into this role with the Royals is incredibly meaningful. This is a proud organization with a strong foundation, and I’m excited to help build on that—for our players, our families, and the Markham community.”
As part of the transition, Stuart Hyman will retain a minority ownership stake and continue to play an active role in supporting the organization.
“The Royals have been an important part of the community, and I’m proud of what we’ve built,” said Hyman. “Jerrold brings thoughtful leadership and a genuine passion for the game. I’m looking forward to supporting the team in this next phase.”
“Stuart has done a tremendous job building this organization,” added Annett. “I’m grateful he’ll continue to be involved—we want to carry that momentum forward.”
The Royals also announced J.C. Larocque as General Manager & Director of Player Personnel. With experience as a junior, NCAA, and professional player—as well as a coach—Larocque will lead hockey operations, including scouting and player development.
“I’m excited to join the Royals and be part of what’s ahead,” said Larocque. “There’s a great base here, and we’re focused on creating an environment where players can compete, develop, and move on to the next level.”
The Royals’ future is built on a proud history. With roots spanning more than 50 years through the legacy of the Hamilton Red Wings and Markham Waxers, the organization has helped develop players who have gone on to succeed at the highest levels, including Zach Hyman, Chris Tanev, Brandon Tanev, Steve Thomas, Ron Wilson, and Hockey Hall of Famer Adam Oates.
As the team looks ahead to the 2026–27 season, the vision is simple:
